I updated this list, here’s the latest version:

Patrons should have settings to designate which titles should be saved in the circulation history by format and language (and possibly other options) and how long they want to retain the titles in the list — for example, a patron may want to only save books and not DVDs and other formats, automatically remove titles checked out more than two years ago, etc.

Patrons should be able to search, filter and sort checkout history display. Filter options should include format, language and when the title was checked out. Sort options should include author, title, date of publication and all other columns shown in the display

Patrons should have a way to apply a star or other designation to selected titles, to make it easier to find them for whatever reason. This would be similar to the use of stars in Gmail, Google Drive, etc.

Patrons should be able to select titles and apply actions to those titles. Actions should include (but not be limited to) download, delete, add to a new list, add to an existing list and download CSV.

The option to download CSV should include a filter so patrons can only download books checked out in the last year, or only books in Spanish, etc.
ISBN should be included in the CSV output options, which would make it easy for patrons to connect with Google Books, GoodReads, the Diverse Bookfinder’s Collection Analysis Tool and other services that work with files of ISBNs

I guess I was being a little intentionally vague, leaving room for discussion. These issues of what should stick to what are always complicated. Background:in NOBLE, we added the links to the cataloging menu that I listed here, because we wanted to make it easy for people to find these cataloging related functions without going to the long list of unrelated (and in our case, often irrelevant) functions on Local Administration page. We’re trying to reduce the number of local customizations we maintain, in favor of customizations that can be set in the staff client.

I think for us, there are things we would want to set at the consortium level, as well as things set at the system or branch level and I am sure there are things that could be set at the workstation or user level, but to avoid over-complicating things, I’d recommend that this customization works on the org unit hierarchy, like the splash page customization in 3.9. I agree that adding the ISBN to the CSV is important — really, it’s the key to making all the other improvements to checkout history management useful. Several releases ago, I believe we were able to add this to the CSV locally as part of an action trigger, but that’s not possible anymore (more on that here: Launchpad #1208875) Although not all titles have an ISBN, most books do, and it’s the key to interacting with other systems: GoodReads, Google Books, etc.

This would definitely be useful, and would be simple if records were structured so that the number of pages for books, listening time for audiobooks, etc., were in their own little box that could be treated like the numbers they are. The data is in the record in fairly predictable patterns — books generally have something like 360 p. or 360 pages in 300$a but sometimes have things like viii, 371 p., [8] p. of plates, a little harder to parse out. Audiobooks sometimes have the duration listed like this 14 audio discs (17 1/2 hr.) but sometimes like this10 sound discs (ca. 72 min. each) (at least in our database.) It’s possible the data could be found and formatted, but this sounds complicated (and therefore expensive.) I definitely support the concept, though, and would love it if someone could make this work! (It’s not something I’ve seen in other library catalogs.)

In EBSCO’s NoveList Plus products, you can limit by number of pages or running time in Advanced Search, but that’s presumably because their data is structured differently. For libraries using NoveList, this can be a good way to create lists of adult biographies and memoirs recommended for young adults and less than 300 pages long, but our librarians and patrons would definitely like to be able to just do this on the fly in search!

This would be very helpful, especially if it included a high contrast setting. Many staff client screens fail the WCAG contrast checking.

Just wanted to note that the ability to add all search results (up to 1000) to a basket was added to the Angular staff catalog in Release 3.7: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1885179

Unclear whether users in the idea was referring to staff or patrons (or both.)

Thanks, Ben, I think I only added that Launchpad bug in my mind. I have now added it in real life.

We would certainly like to get out of the business or adding, deleting and often resurrecting MARC records for OverDrive titles as they come and go.
It looks like the PINES development was to display the records in a separate tab in search results, which means handling them differently from all the other ebook (and other e-resource) products they subscribe to individually — Hoopla, Kanopy, Films on Demand, EBSCO eBooks, etc. (OverDrive is the only thing we license for all NOBLE.) They like having patrons discover the ebooks when they are looking at the various editions — the book is out, the audiobook on CD is out but they see the ebook and decide to try it. I feel like keeping all those other e-resources in the main search results stream but moving OverDrive to a separate tab will make them less visible.

On the other hand, if the intent were to use the API to fetch the OverDrive records and interfile them into the regular search results, I’d be concerned about having this slow the catalog display down (we have speed issues already) or that it would result in “jumpiness” if the search results start loading and then the OverDrive titles come in late, so to speak.

Tested this in the new Bootstrap refreshed version of the catalog, and this looks the same as it does in the current version of the public catalog, which makes sense since the refreshed version is about layout and design and doesn’t affect the way search itself works.

I wasn’t sure if you were referring to the staff or public versions of the catalog, but this works MUCH better in the Angularized version of the staff catalog, also known as the Experimental Staff Catalog. This will be the default staff catalog in Release 3.6.

    Here’s a screenshot from Release 3.5.1:

Confirmed this on the Angular version of the staff catalog on Release 3.5.1 (this is called the Experimental Staff Catalog in Release 3.5, but will become the default staff catalog in Release 3.6.
