ECDI Program Director
The Evergreen Collaborative Development Initiative (ECDI) under the fiscal sponsorship of North of Boston Library Exchange, Inc., is a community of consortia and libraries working cooperatively to identify, fund, and assist in the implementation of key development projects for the Evergreen Integrated Library System, an open-source library management solution.
Job description
The Program Director serves as the primary administrator and support specialist for the Evergreen Collaborative Development Initiative (ECDI). This 20-hour-per-week position with the North of Boston Library Exchange is fully remote.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree
- Experience working with or in libraries
- Massachusetts residency
- Ability to work effectively remotely, including managing and facilitating virtual meetings as well as off-site in-person meetings
- Demonstrated capacity for self-directed learning, showing initiative, and quickly adopting new technologies
Desired qualifications
- Experience working with open source software, particularly the Evergreen Integrated Library System
- Experience with version control, testing, and continuous delivery
- Experience working in project management
- Ability to manage a budget
- Ability to communicate technical ideas effectively to a non-technical audience
- Demonstrated contribution to open-source projects or their documentation
- Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools such as Google Drive, Zoom, IRC, etc.
- Ability to manage a WordPress website and associated plugins
Duties include
- Working with the ECDI development committee to select development projects and with the ECDI oversight committee to ensure smooth overall operations
- Coordinating contracting, payment and scheduling for ECDI-funded projects in cooperation with NOBLE staff
- Managing and prioritizing the backlog of features and bugs documented by ECDI members
- Writing and/or editing software requirements for selected development projects
- Performing and coordinating detailed technical testing of development projects in all phases
- Actively engaging with and acting as a link between stakeholders, developers, and end users
- Serving as a liaison between ECDI and the Evergreen ILS open source software development community
- Collaborating with member and non-member library organizations to secure funding for development projects
- Identifying tools and technologies to improve service and processes for members
- Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature, and attending related seminars and conferences
- Managing the evergreencdi.org website and associated mailing lists
- Managing ECDI’s public presence including social media and press releases
Salary Range
$37.44 – $45.55 per hour

About NOBLE
The North of Boston Library Exchange, Inc. is a cooperative effort of 25 area libraries founded to improve library service through automation. Seventeen public library members, seven academic libraries and one special library are members. NOBLE adopted the Evergreen Integrated Library System in 2012 and serves as the fiscal sponsor for ECDI.
